My laptop is Samsung, the pre-installed system is DOS, using Windows XP all the time before. And now I wanna upgrade into Windows 8, but I can't understand what does Windows 8 OEM mean exactly. Can you please state the definition for me with easy understanding? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Windows 8 OEM is a piece of software released to the “original equipment manufacturers” by Microsoft. Original Equipment Manufacturer, is defined by IBM to refer to "a manufacturer of equipment that may be marketed by another manufacturer.

For exmaple, when you buy a laptop, there is a system which has already installed in your computer. This system, if it is Windows, is OEM edition from the brand of your laptop.

If you wanna upgrade your system to Windows 8, you have to purchase a full version of Windows 8 from shop or online. Because nearly all OEM systems are bundled with laptop when it is sold.
