Here, some useful solutions for windows 8 sound problem is available.

When encountered the sound problem in WIN 8, the first thing you need to do is:

1. Make sure the correct audio server is running.
2. Make sure your audio device in Windows is disabled or shut down.
3. Make sure your audio device is muted
4. Make sure your audio device's volume is not so low that it can not be hear.
5. Make sure you have plugged in your audio device.

If you have checked all those devices, you will recieve an error message: audio device may have a problem.

when I originally installed the customer preview on my laptop, everything worked fine until earlier today when my sound just stopped working. I tried restarting but that didn't help. I can't test the speakers because it says another application is using them. any helps?
