thank you for taking the time to look at this and help me it is greatly appreciated. I really could not understand why Spyware Blaster does no longer work on my machine. When I click the icon the normal warning comes up asking 'Are you sure you wish to allow this program' etc. I click allow and there is no any response. I am using windows 8 beta 64 bit.

I am using Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti virus program and that comes up clean.

Is it possible that my machine is infected with something?

I know this issue has probably come up many times in this forums and maybe someone will rise some helpful suggestions for this. many thanks in advance.

No your machine is perfectly clean, as long as your Microsoft Security Essientials is running in the background (is active). It protects against allnost everything incl. spyware.
I guess that your problem is that "Spyware Blaster" tryes to do the same as M.S.E. and then they conflict, and M.S.E seems to be the strongest.
Remove Spyware Blaster (this program is very old, and there is no need of it anymore since M.S.E. surfaced) at once, and I will guarantee that your protection is at the very top anyway.
