I have tried various ways but cannot remove the Cyberlink data disk icon from the desktop.

There are no options to delete such as when I right click etc.

I have read that shift+delete should bring up a question "are you sure" or similar but pressing shift and delete does nothing.

If it's just an icon on the desktop, just drag/drop it into the trash can on the desktop. This will remove the icon but if it's an icon.exe for a software/program/application, it wont uninstall it, that will have to be done from the "add/remove programs" list.

As I could not find a way to just remove the icon I did in fact uninstall the program.

Seems peculiar that you are forced to have a program icon on the desktop or uninstall the program ??

It's probably a trial version of that program that was installed by the computer manufacturer. You can open Control panel / Programs and Features. Find Cyberlink program and click the Uninstall button.
