I recently refreshed my system because of instability issues and am now back to Win 8.1 After the refresh the icons on the start screen are all blank. When I go to the All Apps page the icons there are also blank. Sometimes, the icons will fill in after a certain amount of time, but not all of them get filled in. I've Googled this issue and can't seem to find a fix for it, so any help would be appreciated.

I'm a newbie, so I hope this is posted in the correct section of the forum; if not, please let me know where to post it.

Sounds like something went wrong with the refresh. I would try the refresh again and if that doesn't work I'd would back up any data you want and then just do the "remove everything and reinstall windows" from within windows 8.1 under "PC settings" or use your install media DVD/USB and do a clean install.

I do appreciate the answer, but since everything else is working correctly I don't want to do the refresh again. I didn't realize before I started the refresh process that I would then have to download all of the Windows updates to get back to 8.1. In my case I had to download and install 114 Windows updates in addition to reinstalling a bunch of other programs. I'm just interested in a fix for this specific problem

If you don't want to do that....then load the install media DVD or USB, and boot from it, then select system repair. This will repair corrupt or missing system files and should get your icons back in order.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other way to boot. Yesterday I got a message that the Power Shell has stopped working, and that message now pops up constantly. I think my only choice at this point is to wipe out everything and start over.
