Default Do I Need to Upgrade my Apps on Windows 7, If I Decide to Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8

I have installed many apps on my computer (HP tablet - Windows 7 Professional), and many of these apps are necessary for me because I need them to work. My question is that if I want to upgrade my windows 7 to windows 8, do I have to upgrade my apps on Windows 7 like Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop and Office 2007. If you know, please tell me how to do it. Thanks in advance.

    'wein',

I will answer your query in 2 parts from 2 angles.

    1. When one moves from 1 Operating System to another ALL Programs, Software & Utilities must be installed in the new OS.
1.a. Data can be transferred, applications cannot.

    2. S/W, such as those you mention, do not necessarily need upgraded versions to run on 8 instead of 7. Generally anything that would run on 7, will run on 8. IF, S/W that was running in 7 had been updated whilst in 7 and the install disc is older than the update... then, after installing said program in 8, it will have to be brought up to date, again. Windows 8 compatibility list is huge, so, likely no worries.

    Cheers,

There is an upgrade path to Win 8 from Win 7. That said, the Upgrade is very dependent on the underlying OS. Many things can be carried forward that could cause problems with Win 8. The more you have installed, the more problems you might create.

I always recommend the Custom Install. There have been far more reports of corrupt installations or problems with the Upgrade Installation than with the Custom installation. Yes the apps will all have to be reinstalled, but this allows integration into the OS with a much cleaner interface. Why take the chance.

Back up all your data, collect all your installation media and keys, and start from scratch. You will be much happier with the end result.

The only way you can do what amounts to a clean install w/ the Win8 Upgrade is by telling it to "Keep Nothing" @ the onset of the install process.

This means saving any wanted data (from 7) 1st & put that in 8 after it is live. S/W has to be (re)installed no matter what.

    This is the ideal approach.

If your programs are compatible with Windows 8, you dont need to upgrade, but you need to reinstall them. So make sure that you do a backup before installing Windows 8.

Do we have to reinstall them, I think it is really a hard work because I have installed many apps on my Windows 7, which is annoying!

    Allow me to explain.

    Data can be moved.

Programs, Utilities and other software must be loaded, installed, after the OS is live, to the newly installed OS.

If you take the time to do the installation correctly, then the new OS will work correctly. If you try to take short cuts then you are just as apt to have a OS that has strange problems.

As we read through these large number of problems, we find the vast majority are caused because someone was lazy and took what they thought would be the easy way out and Upgraded rather than Custom Installed. After working on the problems for days, they finally conceded the point and reinstalled using Custom Install and finally, an OS that works properly.

The Upgrade install is too dependent upon how the original OS works. Not just that, but it depends too much on the interactions of the various apps installed and how clean the OS is. The fewer apps installed the better the chance for success.

In your case you say you have many apps installed. This is asking for disaster. Do yourself a favor and Custom Install from Media you created the first time, then reinstall your apps. You will then have an OS that works the way MS intended it to work.
