Default Unable to create more partitions in Windows 8

Here I want to show you a common question that many people may experienced it. And then I will introduce how to solve it.

    Question:
I recently purchased a Laptop which has Windows 8 installed in it. When I bought it, it had only two partitions one for system c: drive and another for recovery... I tried creating a partition but when I do so this appears:

    Attachment 1714

what is the advantage and disadvantage if I click Yes, Please advise... I want to create partition without losing OS and recovery files in d: drive...

    What is the problem?

It is well known that, MBR disk only support up to 4 primary partitions or a structure of 3 primary partitions + one extended. In this scenario, actually, there already have four primary partitions on this disk, so it prompts this warning. You can view your disk configuration in disk management by right clicking My computer—manage—storage device—disk management. Then you may find there is a “*: System Reserved” partition and an “*: OEM” partition. Usually, these two partitions have no drive letter, so you could not find them in Windows Explorer. Thus you think you only have two partitions.

    How to solve this problem?

To be honest, dynamic disk is not good choice for nonprofessional users. A common reason is that if your computer break down or remove the disk, you may encounter dynamic disk invalid. And this is a very common problem. In addition, all Microsoft's Home version operating system do not support dynamic disk, including XP/Vista/Windows 7/8 Home Edition, and at the same time, the operating system before Windows 2000, such as Windows 98, NT and ms-dos also does not support dynamic disk.

So in order to create more partitions in this scenario without data loss, you need to build the structure of 3 primary partitions + one extended part, then you can create more partitions on the extended part. In short, you need to convert one of the primary partitions to logical partition (you can achieve this goal with Aomei Partition Assistant without data lose). Non system partition can be converted into logical, including OEM partition. You may have not used it even when you abandoned this computer.

To convert primary partition to logical partition, you can download Aomei Partition Assistant into use and then find the function as the picture shows:

    Attachment 1713

    Steps:
Step1. Launch Partition Assistant, in the main console, right-click the partition which you want to convert to logical, in the “Advanced feature” select “Convert to logical”

Step2. In the pop-up window, click “Ok” to affirm the operation.

Step3. Back to main console, click “Apply” on the tool bar to commit the operation.

Note: You can not convert system partition and system reserved partition to logical partition.
