    Hello archy,

    Thanks for using our program.
Regarding the problem, could you tell me what is the feature you used to clone the hard drive, by "copy partition" or "clone disk" feature? If you clone the entire hard drive to another disk, then, does the target disk used for another computer? Is there any error message?

    Best Regards,

    Dear Aomei,

I needed to replace my existing 80Gb boot drive with a 1500Gb boot drive. After watching tutorial videos, I downloaded Disk Backupper. First I actually backed up my boot drive to another disk, then I used the clone feature to clone my 80Gb drive to my 1.5Tb drive. Everything went well. Afterwards I shut the computer down and moved the data cable from the 80 to the 1.5. Then I rebooted and was greeted with "Verifying DMI pool data...." and there it sat.

So I removed all the other data plugs from my other hard drives to leave only the new boot drive. I check my BIOS to make sure it was set too. So I popped in my Windows 8 Pro DVD and launched the troubleshooting tool. So I used the Automatic Repair option and it displayed "Attempting Repairs". But it kinda went into a coma(?) as there was nothing to indicate progress of any kind. After an hour I turned it off and here I am!

It sounds like you used the wrong program to clone your drive to the new drive.

A proper program will make the new drive an exact duplicate of the original.

I use only Ghost 11.5 for all my drive backups and clones. It works 100%, every time.
(and it's worked for me, since 1997)

It's available on the internet, if you look for it.

    Good luck!

Well I was hoping to hear from Aeomi. I ended up installing Win-8 all over again. Not sure what happened with the software... in all the videos I watched... there were never any problems.

Did you try booting from the WinPE (or Linux) CD & then select rebuild MBR, then Apply?

I've never used AOMEI, nor any other partition tool, as a substitute for cloning OS partitions. Have done so for Data/other Logical ones, though.

It's always best to use a backup app that has a clone option (TM gave an example of one), last time I checked EaseUS Todo has a free backup app that clones. If you have a WD HDD, there's a Acronis True Image WD Edition, free of charge.

    WD Support

If you have a Seagate or Maxtor HDD, there's Seagate Disk Wizard, much the same as above. Don't know why Samsung is left out, the brand is now a part of the same family, though brand names have been retained.

    DiscWizard | Seagate

There is also Clonezilla, which is also free, many Windows & Linux users uses this one, it works with all HDD's.

    Clonezilla - About

Whatever you do, don't mess with the original HDD until you get your new one going. Also, some users prefers to backup their old HDD, then simply restore the backup to the new HDD using the normal recovery method. I've done this myself countless times prior to becoming familiar with cloning software.

Keep us posted. We're here to help.

EDIT: EaseUS Todo Backup Free does have a clone option. Here's the link to the software.

    Hello DBGaither,

We are so sorry for the inconvenience you encountered with this product. Currently the "clone disk" feature of AOMEI Backupper cannot 100% guarantee the cloned disk is bootable. However, instead we have developed another feature "Migrate OS to SSD/HDD" integrated within AOMEI Partition Assistant. It is specialized for Migrating operating system to another hard disk and enable it is bootable. After you complete migrating OS, you can start to copy the rest of the partitions.

    Best Regards,
    AOMEI

The 2 SSDs I got (Kingston HyperX 120GB & Samsung 840 series 250GB) came with migrating software in CD. The software that came with the Kingston SSD (Acronis True Image) works fine with Windows 7. But when I replaced it with Samsung and transferred the Kingston to my Win 8 PC, the software did not work because of the limitation in hard disk type (Dynamic). I've also tried AOMEI but to clone a dynamic disk, you have to get the paid version. I have a Macrium Reflect Free on my Win 8 installed from day 1 for backing-up images of my PC but when I tried it's cloning feature, it was flawless. Free, but flawless. You might want to consider using that in the future. And don't forget to create an image of you PC now that you have a clean install. Install all your favorite programs first and then create an image. It will save you a big deal of time recovering your pc when you get into big trouble. Recovery by image works like a magic.
